Pharmacy Job Overview:

The role of a pharmacist continues to evolve and become increasingly integrated into economic and business decisions. Many pharmacy schools have incorporated additional studies or centers that focus on health outcomes and pharmacoeconomic research programs. These centers collaborate with pharmaceutical companies, healthcare organizations and other acedemic institutions to assess the effectiveness of health care interventions. The goal is to enhance the application of drug effectiveness through economic studies.

 

By definition, pharmacoeconomics refers to the scientific discipline that compares the value of one pharmaceutical drug or drug therapy to another. There are many jobs that encompass the study of pharmacoeconomics including pharmacoeconomic director, health economics, pricing and reimbursement managers and health outcomes research/liaison. A qualified candidate should have knowledge of healthcare economics, epidemiology, quality of life and clinical research. This person will be considered a creditible expert interacting with key health care decision makers and external stakeholders by providing pharmacoeconomic data that will identify and communicate cost-benefit analysis of therapeutic areas and work with the economic impact as new products are developed.
