Overview:
Pharmacy technician jobs are expected to increase much faster than the average. As the need for pharmacists continues to grow, pharmacy technicians will play a key role in running a smooth and compliant pharmacy.
Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in providing medication to patients. Because they are often the first to greet the customer and receive the prescriptions, it is important for them to have excellent customer service skills. They must also be detail-oriented in order to accurately fill medications, be able to research and provide information to pharmacists when appropriate and perform administrative duties like answering the phone and stocking shelves.
Although many employers provide on the job training, more employers are requiring a formal training program and a certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. This ensures that the technician is dedicated to the profession and already has a level of knowledge needed to successfully perform in that position. Many pharmacy technicians will move into a supervisory role or go on to become pharmacists. |
